
“Which eMail metrics should I be really concerned about?” I’m asked this question frequently but what’s really being asked is: "Everybody else seems to be doing better than us so what metrics are important and what are the industry averages?"
My short answer is that there are no average rates. Open rates vary wildly: by message type; permission level; mailing day; business vs. consumer; age of list and dozens of other variables making them inconsistent measures.
