Excellent point. LinkedIn should allow us to expand our network. What is missing is a management tool where you categorise your contacts into:
- key contact (the ones for which you know phone number and e-mail by heart)
- meet once per month/quarter/year
- call once per quarter/year
- send occasional e-mail

It would be great if these interactions where somehow logged. But LI is not for contact relation management. If it is a mere prospection tool, the trick is to link it to a CRM, harvesting occasionally your LI list.

All true, but the bigger point is why invite someone to your network if you really don't see a potential synergy? Breaking through the 500+ barrier seems a bit high school popularity contest—not to say that networking is bad but it is an active effort not a passive toss away. Just collecting contacts defeats the purpose for which it was intended, no?
