The question is interesting, but advertising is not the only support for quality content. I would speculate that a lot of bloggers produce content for reputation and derive value from interaction, derived products, etc. Also companies, institutes, academia and ngo's can support content production.

I agree entirely on both points. And after just getting off the phone with a prospective client even more so on your second point.
