Is Social Media Killing the Campaign Microsite?

Editor
mediaweek.com

As stated by Carol Kruse, vp of global interactive marketing at Coca-Cola. “The old model is to build your own site, then spend media dollars to bring them there.” But that is not the case anymore. Now companies such as Coca -Cola are launching their advertising campaigns on sites such as Facebook. While campaign microsites (the old model) are not facing extinction, they are no longer the leader but now a co-runner with My Space, YouTube and widgets. Barbarian Group, which has built its reputation crafting microsites, has moved away from them. Instead, the “Beer Canon” campaign for client Milwaukee’s Best relied on viral videos that lived on YouTube. With so many digital initiatives out there companies have a variety of outlets using the internet to market.
