Are There Different Types of Custom Magazines?

While there are different types of custom magazines, all of them have a common element in that they are sponsored, published and issued by one brand or company. In Joe Pulizzi's eBook, Content Marketing Playbook, he includes custom print magazines and digital custom magazines as part of a broader category of "long-form content."

Custom print magazines are familiar to most of us as they emulate many of the formats of traditional magazines. The main difference is that the content is strategically written to engage and build a relationship with an intended audience by delivering high quality content that is meaningful and valuable to that audience.

Digital custom magazines are also referred to as eZines and often contain many of the same formats as their custom print magazine cousins but reside online in a PDF or similar reading format that does not require special software to open or read.

Both custom print magazines and digital custom magazines share the same attributes as they deliver consistent, high-quality editorial custom magazine content to a targeted database.

In determining how to select the custom publishing types that best match your strategy, your custom magazine strategy should answer the following:

•   Will it position my company as a thought leader?
•   Will it strengthen our database efforts? (use the direct mail list to update
