The History of Junta42
Executive Team
What's with the Name?

How Junta42 Was Started.

When?
Junta42 was founded in July 2007 by Joe Pulizzi. During his time running Penton Media's custom media division, Joe knew all too well that there was a lack of education and information around content marketing and custom publishing. Junta42 was launched as a resource to help marketers and publishers better understand the need and application for content marketing initiatives. The original version of Junta42 most resembles our community page.

In June 2008, Junta42 launched a service called "Match" (which is now called, simply, Junta42), which was designed as a free service to match up brand marketers with expert custom content providers.

Why?

Junta42 has been in the middle of content marketing since its inception. The site was launched because there was a lack of online resources available for people trying to figure out this thing called "content marketing."

Need information on traditional marketing … sure, you can find lots of places to get those. Need information on how to create valuable content for your customers on a consistent basis - not too many of those places available. That's why Junta42 not only created this community resource, we created a free service to help marketers get started by finding expert custom content vendors.

What?
Today, marketing is all about publishing. To market effectively, brands must provide valuable, relevant and compelling content to attract and retain customers. To assist marketers with their "publishing" efforts, Junta42 offers two free products, the Junta42 Vendor Matching Service and the Junta42 online educational resource.

Where?
The company runs as a virtual business, with corporate headquarters based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Who?

Joe Pulizzi

Joe Pulizzi is considered the foremost content marketing evangelist. If it's related to content marketing, you'll most likely find Joe in the middle of the conversation. Joe started using the term - content marketing - back in early 2000. Today, content marketing is a well-known philosophy driving the most effective marketing programs on the planet.

Previously an executive for Penton Media Inc., Joe founded Junta42 to help marketers create and develop better content marketing. Joe serves as Chief Content Officer for Junta42, in addition to being President of Z Squared Media LLC (Junta42's parent company).

Joe is co-author of the book Get Content Get Customers (McGraw-Hill), which helps teach businesses why and how to create their own compelling content to drive their businesses. Get Content Get Customers has been called THE handbook for content marketing.

An accomplished speaker, Joe travels around North America and Europe teaching audiences about content, publishing and social media. Among his many awards, Joe was recently voted "Custom Media Innovator of the Year" by American Business Media. For more about Joe's activities, see JoePulizzi.com.

What's with the Name?

Junta (pronounced juhn-tah by us, with apologies to the traditional pronunciation) is defined by dictionary.com as "a small group ruling a country immediately after a coup d'état and before a legally constituted government has been instituted." The "42" you ask? Forty-two is the answer to "The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything" in the book (not the movie) Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams.
